Starting from an almost neoclassic vision of the town and nature – writes Accerboni – Colussi rebuilds the image of places in a delicate poetic vein, refining over time his bright and vivid language with balance and skill through a spellinding real colorism, which, nonetheless leaves place for dream. Pursuing the ancient tradition of painters and landscapist such as Giuseppe Barison, Giovanni Zangrando, Ugo Flumiani and Guido Grimani in a very personal way, the artist, now fifty-five years old, in outlining the view, over time has succeded in composing a peculiar precise manner, but as the same time sober and essential, which makes the landscape live on the light (be it day or night) obtained through repeated refined layers and a definite but soft chromaticism.
His paintings, in which he can intertwine the language of the past with the requests of linearity of the modern one, are characterized by balance and sensitivity. The result is a historical and bright Trieste, in the gulf of which the severe and elegant architectures of old merge with an extraordinary light blu sky and sea pierced by flaming sunsets which draw inspiration from the real ones, but are slightly idealized thanks to the artist’s poetic intuition, whose chromatic notes could may be equated with those of the Hungarian composer Franz Liszt.
On the contrary and always through the light, the lagoons reflect the peace and the silence of the places. This way the crisp air of Trieste dissolves into a landscape of which Colussi can skillfully render the atmosphere of still beauty that characterizes the waters ot Grado, Marano and Fossalon.
The Artist
Fabio Colussi was born in Trieste in 1957 where he lives and works. In a certain sense he is a self-taught artist, as his style has been formed through the study of the great Trieste painters such as Barison, Zangrando, Flumiani and Grimani. He paints his early watercolours at the age of four, his themes are landscapes, woods and figures realized using wax crayons; later he approaches tempera and acrylics, and successively, in the early nineties, he paints oils on canvas and on board, now his favourite technique that he has never abandoned.
To make his paintings he draws inspiration from the sketches that he jots down in a notebook which he always has with him and that sometimes are implemented, as far as architectures are concerned, by photographic notes.
Colussi is present with his works in private collections in Italy and abroad (United States, Germany and Australia). He has exhibited at national and European level, recently in Belgium, in Croatia and Montenegro, arousing great consensus.
